JOE BITHELL put in a brilliant performance as a second-half substitute to earn his side their first points of the season in a hard-fought win at Rochdale.
On a superb playing surface at Burton Park, Heyside struggled to string passes together in a very lacklustre first half and just before the break the home team got the goal that their energy and hard work deserved after Aleck Mills was caught in possession in his own half.
But, just like the first week defeat against Littleoborugh, strong words and changes at the break brought about a complete transformation.
Bithell joined debutant Joe Freeman in the centre of midfield and the two began to dominate and get their side going forward.
And it was Bithell who got them back on level terms when the ball came ouf of the penalty area and he rifled in a low drive that flicked in striker Ryan Atkins on its way into the net. But definitely Bithell's goal!
From then on it was nearly all Heyside and when Tom Shaw chased down a threw ball he was composed enough to pick his spot.
Clements did threaten a couple of times but James Lord was again solid in goal and the point were sealed late on when Matthew Dell broke down the left and then unselfishly squared the ball for Atkin to tap home.
Now let's see if we can play in the first half too!!!!!
